The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a pastoral plan and ritual process for the way the Church welcomes and forms adults and children of catechetical age in the way of Jesus as it is lived in the Roman Catholic tradition. The Program has been offered at Sacred Heart for over 20 years and provides information about our Catholic beliefs and traditions. There is no charge for attending and the first few meetings are focused on answering your most important questions on our religion. If you wish to proceed, we offer continuing education on how to enter the Catholic Church.
OCIA welcomes those who:
1. were never formed in the formal traditions and teachings of the Catholic faith;
2. for baptized Catholics who seek to complete their initiation by being confirmed or
receiving the Eucharist or both;
3. for baptized or unbaptized Christians from other churches who wish to be received into
full communion of the Roman Catholic Church.
Each of these different groups of people require particular attention and a process tailored to their needs. OCIA meets every Sunday before mass in the Rectory (9am-10am) from September through May. We have an informal group setting with various church members and speakers offering presentations on each step in the process, as well as pertinent videos and handouts
from prominent Catholic educators.
We are a welcoming and loving group and we invite anyone interested in learning more about our Catholic beliefs to join us. We enjoy coffee, refreshments, and fellowship each Sunday before mass. All are welcome!
Please contact Darlene Cain, OCIA Coordinator, 318-453-7828 or the church office, 318-635-2121 if you would like to learn more.
We look forward to meeting you!
